Sample Sunday: When You Touch Me
The sound of the balcony door sliding open prompted the women to watch the guys as they came inside. Samuel’s assessing gaze bounced between the sisters; a knowing smirk curved his mouth.
“You ready to go, baby?” As soon as the question was out, a yawn soon followed. Moriah looked at Quinn and shook her head. “What? Your spa appointment is at eleven o’clock, then you have to get ready for dinner, which we all know will take hours,” Samuel lamented.
Moriah placed her mug on the coffee table before rising from the couch. “Alright. Let me use the bathroom first.”
Quinn shook her head at their exchange. She finished the last of her drink then walked her and Moriah’s mugs to the kitchen. Darren followed her, causing goosebumps to cover her skin. Just being near him was enough to set her off.
“I can take care of those,” he said as she rinsed the mugs. When Quinn didn’t stop, he turned the faucet off. They engaged in a brief stare-off that made Quinn’s belly roll. She looked away first and placed the mugs in the sink.
Darren smirked. “Did you enjoy the coffee?”
Quinn met his searing gaze with one of her own. “I did.”
“Good. You okay otherwise? You’ve been pretty quiet since we left The Score.”
Darren moved closer to Quinn, peering down at her. She inhaled slowly as her gaze bounced over him. He’d changed out of the long-sleeved button-up into a sweatshirt from his alma mater, Norfolk State University. The green fabric looked good against his rich cocoa colored skin.
“I’m fine,” Quinn replied, knowing it was a lie.
A smile covered Darren’s handsome face. He took a step closer and cupped her cheek. Quinn sucked in a breath, willing her racing heart to calm. The blistering heat filling her core was reminiscent of how she’d felt when they danced. Her eyes locked with his and her pulse raced faster than a freight train.
“You sure?” he pressed.
She swallowed the lump in her throat. “No. I want you.”
Footsteps approaching put a pause on the topic at hand. Darren dropped his hand from Quinn’s face, putting space between them. Moriah rounded the corner with the glee of a child on Christmas Day. Samuel grabbed her by the shoulders and guided her in the opposite direction, toward the foyer.
“We’ll meet you at the elevator, Q,” Samuel said with a smile. On their way out, Moriah’s shrieks could be heard, earning a low chuckle from Darren.
Once Darren and Quinn were alone, he leaned down to her ear. “I want you too. But if you can wait a little while longer, I promise it’ll be worth it.”
He punctuated his statement with a trail of soft kisses down her neck. Quinn pressed her body into his as a low purr settled in her throat. Her heart raced and her belly churned from the sensation of his lips on her. Just when Quinn thought the night couldn’t get any better, he kissed her. The first peck was light and left her yearning for more. She opened her eyes just enough to catch the desire burning in his orbs. Darren smiled at her, then angled her head back. He took her bottom lip into his mouth and sucked slowly.
Quinn inhaled a sharp breath as chills shot down her spine. She gripped his shoulder while pushing her tongue through the seam of his lips. They kissed slowly, taking the time to explore each other’s mouths. Quinn sighed in contentment. Rich, fruity notes from the coffee Darren consumed lingered on his lips. Brazenly, Quinn sucked his tongue, savoring the flavor. His arm tightened around her waist. The taste of Darren mixed with his scent and the warmth of being in his arms made it hard for her to remain patient.
